Ranked by the QS International Assessment of universities (Quacquarelli Symonds World Universities Rankings) among the first 100-150 faculties of modern languages in the world, the Faculty of Letters from Cluj offers a broad range of undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes. Candidates may choose one combination of two specialisations of a native language and literature (Romanian, Hungarian, German), a modern language (English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Norwegian, Finnish), an Asian language (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) a classical language (Latin, ancient Greek, Hebrew), and Comparative and universal literature, Applied modern languages, Ethnology and folklore. Selection criteria:
  • Baccalaureate score worth 50% of the admission score.
  • High school overall grade average worth 50% of the admission score.
NOTE:
  • As a Minor (B) specialisation World and Comparative Literature can be studied in both Romanian and Hungarian language.
  • Modern languages and literatures for Minor (B) specialisations: English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew.
  • Specialisations available advanced level only: English and German.
  • Specialisations available beginner level only: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Norwegian, Finnish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Ancient Greek.
  • Specialisations available both beginner and advanced level: French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Latin.
  • For the Japanese Language and Literature specialisation (A or B), Japanese cannot come into combination with other Asian languages (Chinese Language and Literature or Korean Language and Literature).
  • For candidates from the Applied Modern languages department, the level of language skills must be advanced.
