Being an important component of a prestigious University, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is now a perfect blending of tradition and present, modernity and experience. The field of Mathematics at Babes-Bolyai University achieved an excellent ranking in 2015 in the Best Global Universities ranking, conducted by US News & World Report. While in 2014 the field of Mathematics at Babes-Bolyai University was ranked on position 81, in the 2015 ranking of "The world's best Universities for Mathematics" Mathematics at UBB is positioned on the very prestigious place 63. This classification (the latest in Romania) is a recognition of the value of the School of Mathematics from Romania and in particular from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, a value based on tradition, work and seriousness in a climate of honest competition.

Selection criteria

For students who have graduated in a related major:

  • Argumentative portfolio graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
  • Secondary education overall grade worth 75% of the admission score.
  • Undergraduate final exam score worth 25% of the admission score.

For students who have NOT graduated in a related major:

  • Argumentative portfolio graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
  • Technical assessment test worth 100% of the admission score.

 

NOTE:
            *The portfolio shall include a CV of maximum 2 pages and a professional and scientific career development plan, maximum 2 pages, drawn up in line with the first degree programme on the list of options, in the language of the programme.
           
            *The specialisation test consists of a three-hour written exam, covering the topics of the undergraduate final examination for the field of mathematics and computer science, respectively. There will be no subject-specific test for specialisations in the field of Education Sciences.

*The above-mentioned specialisations are subject to the admission of a minimum number of successful candidates at the end of the first stage of the July admission session. Should the number of successful applicants for a specialisation not warrant the funding of the degree programme, the faculty is entitled to cancel the programme, even if the applicants have already been formally admitted.

**The aforementioned majors will only be offered if they are listed in the Government Decision approving university majors/degree programmes for the 2026-2027 academic year.
